Periodontal (Gum) Disease

Gum Disease

Gum disease plays a major role in causing tooth loss in adults. Gum disease is an infection that affects the gums and jawbone, which can lead to loss of gum and teeth. There are two major stages, gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis is the milder and reversible, periodontitis is often more severe. In some cases, gum surgery would be required to reverse the affect of the disease. It is important to visit your dentist routinely. At each routine exam and cleaning, the hygienist and dentist will work together to accurately assess the condition of your oral health and make suggestions to return your gums and teeth to optimum health. We offer the usual six or nine month routine cleaning to more often visits including deep scaling.
